Onehunga Commercial
HVAC Upgrade

Nine ageing systems out. Four high-capacity Daikin systems in.

Trident was engaged to deliver a complete HVAC upgrade for a commercial retail building in Onehunga, replacing ageing air conditioning systems that had become unreliable, inefficient and no longer met the building's heating and cooling requirements. Rather than replacing the existing systems on a like-for-like basis, the team redesigned the HVAC layout to better suit the tenancy while significantly reducing the number of systems within the already congested ceiling space.

The upgrade replaced nine 25-year-old 8.0kW ducted systems with four high-capacity 18kW Daikin ducted systems, providing a more efficient, reliable and maintainable solution. All new refrigerant pipework, electrical cabling and condensate services were installed from the ground floor through to the rooftop, along with new electrical supplies from the mechanical switchboard. Trident also completed all new roof penetrations and back flashings, with the outdoor units installed on Monkeytoe platforms to provide a secure, level foundation while protecting the roof membrane.

Completing the project within a fully operational retail tenancy required careful planning, clear communication and a strong commitment to health and safety. Working in limited ceiling spaces while installing entirely new services presented significant logistical challenges, but through close coordination with the client and careful project management, the installation was completed with minimal disruption to the building's daily operations.

The completed project has transformed the building's HVAC system into a modern, energy-efficient installation designed for long-term reliability. By reducing the number of systems while increasing overall performance, the new design has simplified future maintenance, improved accessibility and created a clean, organised plant layout. Following the successful completion of the project, Trident continues to provide ongoing servicing and maintenance for the building.
